A passion project that became a movement — fifteen years of purpose-driven mental health care across Zimbabwe.
FYNEX was founded by Dr. R. Makirimani — a doctor who also leads one of Zimbabwe's largest school groups. She saw children struggling, families breaking, workplaces burning out — and support only arriving after the damage was done. So she built something different.
FYNEX is a registered organisation with charitable trust roots and the full legal standing to operate across sectors. It has always been driven by purpose, not profit.
Over fifteen-plus years, that purpose has taken FYNEX from a counselling room into classrooms, boardrooms, courtrooms, and the streets of Harare. Our work now spans one of Zimbabwe's largest school groups, international partnerships with Save the Children Norway and the Ministry of Education, and corporate wellness programmes for leading organisations and Trócaire Zimbabwe.

Purpose and meaning
The idea is simple — neglect one circle long enough, and the others start carrying the load. The model draws on Shona and Ndebele frameworks, integrating cultural wisdom with evidence-based practice. It is facilitated through the dare council model — the traditional Shona men's council — adapted as a therapeutic structure. It creates familiarity and trust, particularly in community and school settings where imported Western frameworks often fall flat.
